   Toughest Division?

  By Peter Gammons
  FPBL Monthly Columnist

As the race for the playoffs is heating up, one division has been red hot all year. The AL West is by far the best division in the FPBL this year. They currently have all four teams with above .500 records. Seattle is leading the division with a record of 78 - 43, good enough for 2nd best in the AL and 3rd overall. Texas is only a game and a half back though, and they are playing great baseball. Both teams have been battling back and forth for the division lead all season. The team in 2nd has been leading the Wildcard race all year. Texas currently is leading the wildcard by 10.5 games. Texas is also owner of the 3rd best record in the AL right now at 76 - 44. So who trails Texas in the wildcard race? Oakland is the closest right now with Anaheim also right there. Both teams could push their way into the playoffs with a late streak. The four teams have a lot of games amongst each other left so anything could happen. There won't be a better divisional race to watch as the season comes to an end. Keep an eye on this division come playoff time also because any team could have the potential of winning the ALCS.

    STREAKY?

  By Joe Morgan

  Hot Pitchers:

Everyone knows Pedro Martinez is the top pitcher in baseball right? What everyone didn't know is how well he would pitch in Colorado. He is currently on an 8 game winning streak and is posting a 2.63 ERA over that stretch.

3 other pitchers are riding 6 game or better win streaks. Randy Johnson - 7 games; Josh Beckett and Brian Bohnannon - 6 games. Bohannon is the hottest pitcher of all though as he has the lowest ERA with a 1.74.

Not So Hot Pitchers:

Not everyone is pitching as well as Pedro though. There are 3 players that are currently on an 8 game losing streak: Aaron Sele, C.C. Sabathia, and Kerry Wood. They are all posting above 6 ERA's during this stretch.

Losing streaks don't always tell everything though. Right now, Chan Ho Park is posting a great 3.00 ERA. Side note: He is also on a 5 game losing streak during this stretch! Goes to show even the best pitching can't win without some run support.

(Streaks continued on page 2!)
